I really debated which topper, and how many inches to get. Generally, I’m a *bigger is better* type, but as someone with a health condition that means movement can be painful without notice, I was hesitant to get one too plush that could make moving &/or getting out of bed harder. Ultimately I selected the 2″ and figured at the price if I was wrong it was a problem that could be rectified without too much financial regret. As a chunky monkey girl another consideration was whether the material would be too squishy (to the point of doing nothingness). To my delight (I’ve been using for 6mos) I’ve found it to be extremely comfortable & properly supportive. I purchased this at the same time as a new (firm) mattress. I like a firm mattress, but I also like a cloud like (but non-sinking) sleep and this fits the bill to a T. To be honest I *still* find myself waking up being surprised by how this has made a difference in my rest. It has held up to daily, er, nightly wear ‘n tear quite well. I read several reviews of memory foam toppers mentioning issues with being too hot, which has not been my experience with this. It fit my bed perfectly. Each night I feel like I’m sleeping on a marshmallow (not jello, no offense to big J E LL O, I like to eat ya, but I don’t wanna slumber & drown in ya), if that’s your nighty-night goal, get one.
This was purchased to rectify the mistake of buying a cheap-o “memory foam” king sized mattress because it was cheap and we had to buy furniture to fill a new house after apartment living for a lot of years. This seriously inexpensive fix has been amazing. Amazing. Again, amazing. Supportive but still feeling like you are just down deep in the best comforters in the world. I can’t say there was any cooling property to the gel-infused whatever that that is. It’s actually quite the opposite which I would say is the only big downfall if you are living without AC. It gets warm. I’m more north-situated so we (pets included) are more than fine with it. Very lightweight. I didn’t get any weird smell like some others were reporting, but there was a slight odor of “new” which went away within a few hours. Probably depends on your sensitivity to odors, but it wasn’t anything that isn’t going to linger after a day.
This is probably the best thing I’ve ever bought for myself. I did a lot of research and read many different reviews before chosing this one and I just couldn’t be happier. I used to toss and turn so hard that I woke myself up regularly but ever since I got this I actually rest when I sleep.
– I followed the instructions to lay it out flat for 24 hrs (it took up all the space in my room but I made it work) And FYI it’s not the easiest task for a single person to get it from the floor to the bed all alone.
– There was a moderate chemical smell when I first unwrapped it but it was completely gone in a few hours.
– It was noticably comfortable right away and being that I’m a side sleeper I loved that the pressure was taken off my hips immediately…… But to be honest I didn’t sleep well at all the first week. My body took about 3 weeks to get completely used to it and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little worried during that time. Give your body the time to adjust to it, it’s totally worth it.
– Try to break it in by walking/crawling on it, I even flipped it over after a few days, it is definitely “firm” for a while. I found this advice in other reviews and it definitely helped.
– I’ve had no problems with it slipping off the bed or moving around but I did put a mattress pad/protector over it.
– There is a noticable increase in the overall temperature of my bed, again I also have a mattress pad/protector on it too, but it’s nothing worth complaining about.
– It’s a little more difficult getting in and out of bed in general but part of that is because it added 3 inches to the height of my already kinda high bed.
– Last of all I recently had a surgery that has kept me on “bed rest” for the last 4 weeks and this has been a lifesaver. Even after hours of sitting or laying in the same spot or position I’m still comfortable.
Overall I highly recommend this to anyone who wants or prefers memory foam/gel.
